Cookies
Cookies are small pieces of text used to store information on web browsers. Cookies are used to store and receive identifiers and other information on computers, phones and other devices.
This policy explains how we use cookies and the choices you have.
Why do we use cookies?
Put simply, we use cookies to ensure our website works. There are 3 different types of cookie on our site:
A necessary cookie. Necessary cookies help make a website usable by enabling basic functions like page navigation and access to secure areas of the website. The website cannot function properly without these cookies. We have 1 of these called PHPSESSID.
Preference cookies. Preference cookies enable a website to remember information that changes the way the website behaves or looks, like your preferred language or the region that you are in. We have 1 of these called lang.
Marketing cookies. Marketing cookies are used to track visitors across websites. The intention is to display ads that are relevant and engaging for the individual user and thereby more valuable for publishers and third party advertisers.
We have 2 of these all from our Twitter feed on the Home Energy page of our site. They are called i/jot and i/jot/syndication. They are both Session Cookies which means that that they are erased when the user closes the Web browser. The session cookie is stored in temporary memory and is not retained after the browser is closed. Session cookies do not collect information from the user’s computer.
How can you control cookies?
Browser cookie controls: Your browser or device may offer settings that allow you to choose whether browser cookies are set and to delete them. For more information about these controls, visit your browser or device’s help material. Our website and Twitter feed may not work properly if you have disabled browser cookie use. The Information Commisioner’s Office has detailed information on the control of cookies.
